Never Forgotten

That was the day I saw her. The child with dark curls and tattered cloths. It was a nice evening in june. The sky was cloudy but there seemed to be no sign of rain. I saw her looking at me expectantly from where she sat, her back supported by the old fence. She looked shabby and rather tired like beggars do. A stray dog was sleeping near her.I can’t guess her age. She will be 3 or maybe even 5. A bowl was near her waiting expectantly for offerings. I walked towards her searching my pocket for some stray notes. I still hadn’t spent the pocket money father gave me the other day. I placed a 50 alos note on her bowl and started to walk away but before I turned I caught her smile. It was innocent, mischievous but all in all charming. Her dark eyes twinkled in the light. I started to walk back. I felt the happiness of having done a good deed. When I reach home there was a letter waiting for me. I anxiously opened the envelope it held a note written in a hurry it said just these two words “Thank You”. In confusion I checked the envelope again to look for a return address but what I found was the same 50 alos note I had given the beggar child. I ran back to where I had met the girl. When I got there she was already gone with her the stray dog and her old bowl. I searched every corner of the city for her but have never seen her again.
